JOB DESCRIPTION: VOLUNTEER MEAL DELIVERY DRIVERS
SUMMARY: Deliver hot lunches to 8-10 homebound clients at their residence located in Northeast Mpls. and St. Anthony Village.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be in good physical health, able to lift and carry meal carriers and walk stairs.
Must have a valid Minnesota driver’s license, automobile in good working order and auto insurance.
Must have a caring attitude and genuine interest in the elderly.DUTIES:
Receive route sheets and meal carriers from Dinner Bell staff.
Check route sheets for any special instructions and to clarify any questions regarding addresses, etc. Feel free to make notes on the sheets if needed.
Place meal carriers in car or trunk taking care not to tip them to avoid leaking or spillage.
Place volunteer driver card on the dashboard to identify your vehicle when delivering meals.
Knock on door and greet client. Be kind and friendly. Hand food containers to client or put where it’s convenient for them. Assist client if needed.
If a client doesn’t answer the door, return the meal to Dinner Bell. When you’ve finished the route report this to Dinner Bell staff so they can follow up on the client.
Observe needs and moods regarding meal satisfaction and circumstance affecting their health and safety.
Help clients if needed as they send in meal donations, receive information as to meal schedules, and program opportunities.
Return empty meal carriers and confidential route sheets to the Dinner Bell office.
Report any necessary information; incidents, problems or emergencies to Dinner Bell Staff.
If you are unable to drive your route please find a replacement and let the office know who will be replacing you.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Time commitment is 45 – 60 minutes per route, may be scheduled to deliver weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Orientation and training provided; brief review and discussion prior to first delivery; on the job delivery training.
If you should be involved in a car accident while delivering meals, your insurance company will be expected to pay for any damages.
If you should injure yourself while you are delivering meals, report this to us immediately.
If you see a client in immediate danger please call 911, then call the Dinner Bell office.
